Staycation – 5 tips to get started!

Stay home! But travel?

First of all: stay home, ladies. Stay safe!

With the COVID-19 pandemic still threatening lives, many cities and countries are on lockdown. Worse, we can’t tell how long this would stay for. I’m sure I am not the only one tired of being locked indoors. Girl, it is draining the life out of me!

Now, more than ever, staycation has become the new vacation.

Fortunately, more recoveries are being recorded and some cities/states are ready to open for business as usual. But it’s very likely that when lockdown gets lifted, we will still be only able to travel within our countries, not outside of them. So while borders are still close closed, you can enjoy the outdoors within your own country!

So why not explore your area?

Yes, you do not need a full-blown West vacation to loosen up and relax. Check out these 5 fun ways to enjoy a staycation in your area.

1. Tour your own town

It’s time to become a tourist in your own town. You read right! It is easy to ignore some very beautiful attractions because they are located in our town. Well, this is the time to explore your home town and appreciate its beauty. Instead of another country, you can tour your own town.

Drop in the comments where you’re from! I’m currently sitting in Leeds – never knew it can be so pretty!!

2. Go for a picnic

Considered a picnic yet? You should! The idea is to enjoy the outdoors. No one said where or how, right? Plan a little picnic with a few friends or just your family. You can go solo too. In the end, be sure to unpack the stress of being stuck indoors all this time.

3. Geocaching is still a thing!

Haven’t tried it yet? This is the time to go geocaching.

Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices!! Participants go to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then try to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location.

With a little gas in your tank, a GPS-enabled device, and a little sense of adventure, you can totally pull this off. I like this particular activity as it is perfect for kids and adults alike. So, you can bring your kids along. As well as your friends. A little advice – always bring a GPS enabled device. And make sure you follow the instructions on the geocaching site. Let’s hunt down some treasures!

4. Attend local events

Different cities offer different events. To unwind, you can check out the events lined up for the month or week. Keep an open mind and see what these events have to offer. You will be surprised to learn they are just as entertaining as the ones you pay a fortune for outside your home town. What’s there not to like?!

5. Visit a park

Another cool recreational spot we often take for granted are parks. Typically, parks have playgrounds and equipment that help to loosen up. Lose yourself in as many fun activities as possible. You can also go for a quiet people-watching evening. It is magical how this ‘simple vacation’ can get you rejuvenated for a long time. You should give it a try. For real!

Trust me, I am always up for a big vacation. Long trips have become one of my favs lately. However, I try to enjoy ‘the little things’ life has to offer. You do not always need a full-blown Kardashian vacation to feel alive again. Definitely not in this trying time. So, start appreciating the little things in your immediate environment. Thankfully, they are just as fun – if not more!

Let me know what you’re going to explore!
