But this Spanish city on the Mediterranean has much more to offer if you know where to look. Luckily, the locals are friendly, warm and always ready to share something to eat or drink. Go off the beaten track and try to see and do things in Barcelona like a local.

This bar claims to be Barcelona’s oldest watering hole. It also claims famous patrons like Ernest Hemingway, Gaudi, Picasso, and Dali. The popular drink here is fiery absinthe.
- ENJOY THE SUNSET FROM ER CARMEL BUNKER
While the Tibidabo and Montjuic hills are popular with tourists for their lovely views of the city, you can expect to crowd at the end of the day. Head to the El Carmel instead and enjoy the same beautiful views with less crowding. This bunker was built in 1937 during the Spanish civil war, which is why it offers such a good vantage point.

There is 4.5 km of beach and 9 beaches in this coastal city. La Barceloneta is the most famous with many tourists and locals enjoying beach sports at any time. But there is a nudist beach a little distance from downtown Barcelona. The locals are very relaxed about it and will not care a bit about your love for sunbathing in the nude.

Many of Barcelona’s parks have started charging entrance fees as the local authorities try to boost earnings. But the oldest park, Parc del Laberint, remains open free of charge. It is a beautiful siesta spot for the local. Get lost in the maze and enjoy the water features in the park including waterfalls and pools with swimming swans.

The Parce Natural de Collserola will rarely appear in tourist brochures. But this hidden gem of natural tranquility is a favorite spot among local nature lovers. You will find joggers and cyclists keeping health along the park’s trails. Go there early in the evening and enjoy a view of Barcelona’s lights as well as the starry sky.

Barcelona pulses with a vibrant energy that shows in its colorful fiestas, music, and dance. This is the place to learn Latin dance moves in salsa, rumba, and bachata. Head to the Antilla club or Placa Reial for live music and dance.
